May Calendar 2024 - English Board

A calendar for May 2024 to put on your English Board.

I am a new ALT and asked my school if I can start an English Boar. They gave the OK, so I was looking around for ideas (on here and through Google searches). The thing I liked was having a calendar to showcase public holidays and other holidays. So, I made a nice calendar using Canva.

I added Japanese holidays first (Golden Week here we come!), then my country's essential holidays (only two - why South Africa!?). This is to celebrate my country's holidays too and showing my culture to the students (and teachers) through what we deem important enough to celebrate and take a day off for!

I then went on a search for wacky holidays that is just fascinating - did you know there is a day where you celebrate wearing two different coloured shoes?? I didn't (and neither will my kids as it is not on the calendar because it is celebrated the same day as Constitutional Memorial Day - I just thought it was a fun fact and funny).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to edit it in canva too.

PS: Canva has a lot of templates to choose from, so go wild there.

      Hey fellow Saffa! :)
Neat calendar. I'm curious, why did you use the SA flag specifically for workers day?

@rustybucket Hello Saffa!!!! Glad I'm not alone! I used a Google Image that I thought appropriate. Also, if I'm not mistaken, worker's day is only a South African holiday as it has history with Apartheid. Not sure though. You can use any flag or image you think is more appropriate.
