FILL IN THE BLANKS QUIZ (gerunds)

A group quiz game to practice infinitive statements and gerunds

SURVIVOR GAME
To demonstrate this if you are using the projector you need one large copy of the survivor game for the Japanse teacher. You can use the screen and white board marker. If you are using a TV then you need two large copies. Survivor game is much like battleship. The two players take turns making sentences for a certain time limit (I usually say about two minutes). The difference with battleship is when a player makes a sentences they both cross out the spot on their sheet. Thus you shouldn't make sentences where you have your own circles. After two minutes count to see how many circles are remaning and the one with the most is the winner.

THE QUIZ GAME

Do the example with your picture in place of me.

Make groups and out the worksheet. The students should pick their order. They see the question. Fill in the blanks to write their answer and one member brings their answer to the teachers. If their answer is correct we give them points or use random point cards for points. I like random point cards. Then we check the answer on the screen after each group has coome and then move onto the next question.

After the quiz there is a timer for free talk. Demonstrate with the teacher. For a minute the students in pairs start with the sample question and try to hold a short conversation.

Finally there is some writing practice.
