"Daimeshi" means "pronoun" in Japanese.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • After dividing the class into groups, give each group a one pronoun card.
  • Once the group decides their order, the first student takes their card and places it in the correct place on the board. Once completed, that student receives the next pronoun card, which they carry back to their team and give to the next student who comes and repeats the process.
  • The activity is finished when the team has put all of their pronoun cards into the correct position on the invisible grid.
  • I know what you're thinking, where is the 'correct' area? Section off the chalkboard so every group has their own invisible pronoun grid, much like the grid on the worksheet. The correct area to place the cards is in reference to where the first student placed the first pronoun card. For example, if the first student places 'your' on the chalkboard, and the next card the group receives is 'he', the 'he' pronoun card should be placed down and to the left of the 'your' pronoun card.

VARIATIONS:

  • Instead of using the chalkboard, have the groups put the chart together in their group.
  • To use the attached worksheet as practice, erase some or all of the pronouns and the students must fill in the blanked squares.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Print, laminate and stick magnets on the pronoun cards.
