Activity

Class Paparazzi

A very basic interviewing game in which students chase each other and ask basic "Are you~?" questions with "I am" answers while sporting tiny printed cameras.

This is a very basic interview game but with a fun twist. Start the game with the instruction: "Write down questions for your friends. Don't forget— the funniest and creative questions win more (stickers/points). Also, the paparazzi that interviews the most people in the least time wins more (stickers/points)", BUT don't forget to add: "Paparazzi win money by taking photos so, after getting your answers don't forget to take the best shot possible and collect their signatures!" An exaggerated demo with your JTE might help motivate the class further.

The writing is mostly used for memo since this is meant to be a speaking activity and it's probably better to use it when the kids have learned some basic vocabulary or have had enough "Are you~? / I am~" drilling.

I went for the word "paparazzi" rather than 'interviewer' or similar, simply because some students knew the word, while others just found it funny to say. The tiny cameras gave them a surprising boost of confidence and had everyone laughing hard, too. Any comments on how to improve this activity are very welcome!
