Spring Vacation Bingo

Students ask their peers what they did on their spring vacation, checking answers off a bingo sheet, and conjugating verbs into the past tense as they go.

Made by myself and my JTE (props to him for all the Japanese on the sheet!) to beef up page 11 of Here We Go 2, because we found that the content was a little sparse. We did this activity after the students practiced the speaking part in pairs, but this would work for any class practicing past simple form.

  • Yourself and your JTE (or make sockpuppets if you're by yourself) demonstrate an example sentence (ie. "How was your spring vacation?" / "It was good." / "What did you do?" / "I played games."
  • Explain to the students they must conjugate the verbs on the paper to past tense
  • Tell them how many lines you want (we went with 2 lines for bingo, but you can make the activity shorter or longer by asking for more or less)
  • The students stand up and ask their peers what they did for their spring vacation.
