MATERIALS NEEDED:

*A cup and a stick set for each group
*ABC Sticks (Attached file)
*Numbers Sticks (Attached file)

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

*Model the activity with the HRT/ JTE and two extra students to make a group of 4 (but you can choose any group number).

*Play rock, scissors, paper to see who will go first. Then go in a clockwise direction.

*The first student will draw a random stick and read the English. If they say it correctly, they may keep the stick. If they say it incorrectly, they must put the stick back.

*Then the next student will draw a stick, say the English, and then the next student will go.

*There are 1+ special sticks (I use 2 per group) that are blank/ have a sticker on them (are clearly different than the regular sticks). If you draw this stick, you must put ALL your sticks back into the cup.

*The winner is the student with the most sticks at the end of the game (only the special stick(s) are left in the cup (although you can still make them keep playing)) or when the ALT calls time.

VARIATIONS:

Use this game for a variety of vocabulary sets and different grade levels.
If a small number of vocabulary, it might be good to make double (or more) copies for each stick set.
