DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Split the class into groups of approximately the same number of students. The size of the group is up to you. For my class of ten, we did two groups of five.
- Write the letter on the back of the last student in each line. Make sure they don't start until you've done this for each group!
- The students must write the letter on the back of the next student in line. As soon as that student understands, he/she can write on the next student's back. Continue until the student in front understands.
- When the student in the front knows the letter, they must write it on the chalkboard. The first group to write the letter gets a point.
VARIATIONS:
- Instead of writing the letter on the last student's back, try taking them aside and speaking the letter to them. They still must write it on the next student's back.
TIPS/CAUTIONS:
- Be careful about stroke order! For example, I write 'A' starting from the top in three strokes, but my students write it from the bottom left in two strokes (an upside down V , then the horizontal line), so they mistook it for an H.
