Activity

When and where do you ...?

In this worksheet, students practice "when" and "where" by asking about each other's routines.

In the New Crown first-year textbook, "when" and "where" appear in the same lesson, so I made this worksheet a few years ago to combine them into one practice activity.

For step 1, review what the questions mean as a class. I usually ask the questions to the JTE, who then confirms the meaning with the students. Ask the students to write the information about themselves. They can be flexible with the answers if they're more advanced.

In step 2, the students ask each other the questions. Since there's ten spots, you might want to let them ask their partner two questions at a time. For the answer section, they can just write a memo like "at 9 pm" or "every day."

Once most of the students have at least 6 or 7 answers written down, you can wind it down when you feel it's necessary. In step 3, the students will write what their friends said, being careful to pay attention to the fact that they'll need to pluralize the nouns. If I'm participating in the activity with the students, I'll write two or three examples from the students I talked to. Depending on your normal routine and familiarity with the class, you may want to collect and grade the papers after you've finished the activity.

Thank you very much. I changed a few sentences to match my student's textbooks but not many.
