MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Some pictures of current famous people the students know: sports players, music idols, teachers, movie actors and actresses etc.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • Demonstrate the game by hanging a picture of a famous person in the top middle of the board and elicit responses about that person. As they shout out some answers write them down in a sentence: "She is Asa Mao," "She can skate," "She is from Nagoya." etc. If they are complaining they don't know the person you can tell them to look at the picture (colour preferred) and describe it: "She is wearing a pink dress, "She has a ribbon." etc.
  • Play this game like Shiritori where each line is a team. Divide the board into 6 equal parts with chalk lines and give chalk to the first row of students.
  • Hang up a new picture and time them.
  • I played 3 rounds of 3 minutes, 2 minutes and 1 minute. The students can keep going until time runs out.
  • Have each student read their sentence aloud and check for errors or give praise for good work.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Try to mix it up with both male and female pictures. I've used Asa Mao, Miki Ando, Ichiro, Harry Potter, Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow), Koda Kumi etc.

TIPS/CAUTIONS:

  • Don't let them pile around the blackboard or it becomes too chaotic.
