Activity

Top Dog

A write and race activity for present perfect

Demonstrate with the JTE and maybe a couple of volunteers.

The students work in groups. One student from each group comes to a teacher to get the first question.

'How many times have you been to Kyoto?'

The remember it and go back and ask their group. Everyone gives their answer. Whoever has been the most is the top dog. Everyone writes '~ has been to Kyoto ~ times' and the number two student brings the team answer to a teacher. The teacher checks the answer and gives number two the next question. The third student brings that answer to the teacher and so on and so forth.

It is necessary to practice a few variations on time such as 'once', 'twice', 'a few times', 'many times'.

Also when demonstrating it is important to include a demonstrate of 'none of us has been to ~' or '~ and ~ have been there many times'.

After you reach a time limit see how far each group has gotten.
