Battleships (social distance / whole class style)

The classic battleships game adapted to be played at the front of the class instead of in pairs. Only recommended for small classes.

This is the classic battleships format with half the sentence written above the columns and the other next to the rows. I made this game to be suited for social distancing, so all the hits and misses take place on the powerpoint.

Using the game is simple, resetting it is a little more complicated.

To use the game
- fill in the white boxes above and beside the columns and rows to fit the grammar point you are using. Or, fill the black and green boxes with the vocabulary you want to practice.
- divide the class into two or three teams.
- the students choose a square by saying the full sentence, thereby choosing a column and row, or by saying the translation of the vocabulary word. Click on the box and it will disappear revealing if it was a hit or a miss.
- If its a hit, the group gets a point and can choose another square.
- If its a miss, the turn passes to the next group.
- If the ship is totally destroyed, the group gets a bonus point and then the turn passes to the next group.
- When all the ships are destroyed, the team with the most points win!

To reset the game
- To reset the game, you need to move the positions of the hidden battleships. The quickest way to do this is as follows.
To move the ships, click on any shape and go to “shape format” --> “selection pane”. A side bar will pop up. Scroll down and “lock” (by pressing the padlock icon) all the HIT shapes and the GRID shape. Then go back to the main screen. You can then drag your mouse to select all the green squares and the “All ships destroyed” sign, and move them to the side. Unlock the HIT shapes and move them to their new positions, then drag to select all the green squares and place them back on top.

To make "all ships destroyed" pop up, click the small blue square hidden in the bottom right hand corner.
