Activity

As ~ as Pokemon Puzzle

Students use the "as ~ as" clues to work out who the Pokemon are!

This activity is loosely inspired by Silverflower18's As ~ as activity, and the pokemon cards used here were originally made by the_een (Thank you! They have saved me when doing grammar on comparisons so many times.)

There are 9 clues that tell the students about the stats of the Pokemon (size, weight, speed etc) relative to each other. For example, Pokemon B is as heavy as Pokemon A. Using these clues and the pokemon cards, they can see which pokemon have equivalent stats and work out which Pokemon is which, from Pokemon B - J.

How to use:
- Each student receives a puzzle worksheet.
-Students can work alone or in pairs/teams to read through the clues and work out which Pokemon it applies to, to eventualy find Pokemon J.
-The pokemon cards can be uploaded for viewing on their tablets or printed off. There is the easier "Normal Set" with only the 10 pokemon used, and the harder "Challenge Set" which has 2 extra pokemon that will allow multiple options up to a point to add an element of critical thinking.
- There is also a writing section at the end to see if the students can produce the grammar point.
- It would probably help to explain the relationship between the words such as strength vs strong, speed vs fast to avoid confusion. (NOTE: Please have someone that is good at Japanese check the translations for these on the puzzle worksheet!)
