DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • For the first class hand out the article writing worksheet. The exercise is the same as pages 18-19 in New Horizon's grade 3 textbook. If the students have recently gotten back from a school trip, they should write about the trip. If nothing special had happened, pick a certain weekend they should write about.
  • Give the students the whole period to write their articles. Make sure they have dictionaries to use.
  • For the second class, give the students time to finish what they have not finished from the first class.
  • Hand out the worksheet on article titles. There is a small matching activity on article titles. Review the answers and get the students to make titles on their articles.
  • The last worksheet has examples on newspaper names. Review possible titles with the students.
  • For the final class, do the lay out of the paper.

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Make sure the English teacher has done page 18-19 in the New Horizon's grade 3 textbook.
  • Put time limits on the activities or it could take forever.
  • This activity was designed for the New Horizon series but could easily be adapted to fit any English textbook.
