Textbook Review for JHS New Horizon

Mystery Box Game

Make groups
Choose a number to start and then set a time to answer the question (at least 1 minute)
If they answer correctly, they must choose whether to KEEP or GIVE (to another group) the Mystery Box.
The points can be GOOD (+) or BAD (-)
Each group has the chance to choose a number, each group will answer the question.
The group who has the highest point is the winner.
Each group has to make a decision/strategy if they think that the mystery box has good or bad points.
Ask help from the JTE to track their points and do some maths, too. It can be a little confusing when computing for their points.
I did the negative points, if at the start of the game and the mystery box has negative points.
But you can make it zero points if everyone got the minus.

Materials*

Each team has a marker and a whiteboard.
If there are no whiteboards available, you can ask your JTE to laminate an A4 or A3 size paper.

i've used the games4esl version of this game for the past 3 years. it's nice to see someone gave it a nice visual update!

oh yeah! This is actually inspired by that version. It's been on my computer for quite a while so I thought of using it for my class as a review activity. The original version is a little too dark for me so I decided to change the background and added some of my personal effects.

Hello! I really love this concept. Just have a question in terms of game mechanics. If they get it incorrect, do we give the box to the group with the correct answer? I'm thinking of having everyone prepare an answer, so that they can get the chance for a steal, and then they can decide on whether to keep or give the box. Based on how the presentation is set up, someone must be getting the points or losing points irregardless...

If their answers are incorrect, they don’t get to choose anything. But if one of the groups decides to give the box to the group who got the incorrect answer they might have some points depends if it’s plus or minus.
It’s also up to you if you’d like to change the mechanics of the game to make it more interesting for the students. Whatever will work in your class. Most of my class were having fun with negatives points to give to other groups.

Ohhh, I see now. So it's the box itself accumulating and losing points. That's interesting. It's like hot potato. I'm just a little confused still on the group point system. How do we determine the winner and so on. This is the first time I'm seeing this game, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain :)
