Paint Battle for Japan

A quiz activity in the vein of Risk, with a Splatoon-like theme to it.

Students piece together a story while practicing grammar from the semester / year. Students read, write, listen, and speak in this activity.

Will you dance?

This is a janken-style game where students ask each other "will you" questions and get points for completing the action (social distancing). This could also work for Can you, Could you, etc.

Sengoku Jidai PPT

A version of Sengoku Jidai made in Powerpoint. Instead of answers starting with the same letter as the prefecture, it has questions relating to the prefecture itself.

Secret Sentence

Students must use their powers of deduction to guess the hidden sentence on the board.

Zapper Zoo

A write and race powerpoint game. Useful for review.

Janken, Change, Retire

Students work in pairs to answer two questions in order for their pair to retire from the game.

Imperative Blindfold Drawing

Shout out the imperative your blindfolded teammate is trying to draw before anyone else to gain a point for your team.

Best Sentence

A judge will decide after hearing each slip of concluding sentences which one is the funniest or most interesting.

Oh No! Bingo

A tactical bingo game where bingo is bad. Students practice speaking as well as listening.

You Decide T/F

The ALT reads 4 sentences and the students have to decide which sentence is false. In groups, students write their own sentences and the other students have to find the liar.

Pencils and Bombs Review Quiz and Profile Game

A quiz review game and then a writing activity.

Past Tense Points

Students get into groups and try to come up with past tense sentences that will give them the most points.

Uso Baseball

The students play a baseball-themed game where they describe themselves.

Eraser Get

This is a quick and easy vocab review 'game' for 1st grade past tense verbs. Ideal for a quick review before doing a writing exercise.

Famous People Introductions

A shiritori type game where students race to write sentences about famous people.

Broom Ball

Students play imaginary baseball in the classroom without using bats, balls, or bases.

Answer Me Bingo

This is a group Jeopardy game mixed with a flavor of Bingo.


Students race to rebuild their rockets by correctly answering the AET's questions.

Translation Relay

Students compete in small groups to translate Japanese sentences into English, relay style.

This is a very flexible template for you to make sentence scramble lessons with puzzles. Students solve a puzzle and flip over the pieces to find a sentence.

Mario Board Game 2.0

Students write their opinions about certain topics and ask their friends their opinions while playing a fun Mario board game. Adaptable to different grammar points.

Hot Seat

A student sits at the front of the classroom and answers questions. Other students try to guess their answers.
