What chores do you have to do?

A writing excerise and game to review chores

This is a review of material that the students learned in 5th grade elementary school. The grammar has been adjusted to fit the level of JHS 2nd grade.

For the first page, the students simply use the keyword box to match the vocab to the picture. After 5-8 minutes, I check the correct answers with them on the chalkboard.

For the second page, the students practice writing sentences about what chores they do and don't have to do at home. They also write why they do or don't like doing said chore. Depending on how much time you have for this activity, you can also have the students reading it to themselves or in pairs.

For the chores maze, the students roam around the classroom and ask each other about what chores they have to do. They first start at the bottom left and ask "do you have to wash the dishes?". If they get a "yes, I do", they move right to the next square. If they get a "no, I don't", they move up to the next square. They can draw an arrow as they make their way through the maze to keep track of where they are. If they make it to the very top where it becomes impossible to get another no without going off the board, the next space that they should go to is the bottom of the next column. Similarly, if they are all the way to the right and don't get a "no", they move up to the left side of the next row. There are 8 "ask the teacher" squares. If the students land on it they have to ask the alt or jte. Once they've asked the final question and reached the goal, they're finished.

Since this is technicly a review from 5th grade, you can adjust the grammar as you see fit to be easier or harder.

I hope the way I explained everything makes sense haha. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for making this activity. I like that it can be used as an speaking activity. Thanks for explainign too, tho I'm still a little confused on how this work in the part when they can't get a no. lets say in the top they get stuck in the "have to take the trash" then they have to move down to "have to clean the table" ? & if they get stuck at the right. For exanple: "have to clean the bathtub" they have to move up to "have to cook" and then continue up or go to "walk the dog"

    Thank you.

@imkrm Sorry for the late reply!

Let's say that the "take out the trash" at the top is column 2, row 7. If they are unable to get a yes, they would move to the bottom of the next column aka column 3, row 1 (clean my room). If they were to get stuck at column 5, row 4 (clean the bathtub) on the right, they would would move to column 6, row 1 (set the table). Since it's only possible to go either up or right, they wouldn't be able to go from "clean the bathtub" to "cook" to "walk the dog".

I hope that helped clear up any confusion. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!
